【和訳】フレンドリー・ファイアーズ Friendly Fires / "Magnetic"

2027年1月に4枚目のアルバム “Dig Deeper” を発売することを発表したフレンドリー・ファイアーズ。アルバムから2曲目の音源がリリースされたので和訳してみました。

2008年にデビューしてから今年で18年。その間に発表されたアルバムはわずか3枚という超寡作バンドです。

デビューアルバム、セカンドアルバムといい評価を受け、そのままの勢いで3枚目を出していたらスター街道まっしぐらだったんじゃないかなぁと思うんですが、セカンド “Pala” の後に何を作っても満足できないという状況になってしまったらしく（それまでと同じことはしたくないし）、”Pala” から3rdの “Inflorescent” の間にはなんと8年も間が空いています。

その間それぞれソロ活動はしていたのですが、グループとしてはマジで寡作。そしてその3rdからもさらに7年経ってようやくの新曲発表となりました。

インタビューでこれからは結果なんか気にしないでもっとガンガン出すよというようなことを言っているらしいので、これからの活動に期待です。

しかも久々に見たらジャック抜けとるやんという。脱退は今年に入ってからの模様です。ジャック脱退の経緯についてはこちらのインタビューに詳しく書かれています。

ジャックが今年に入ってから脱退したいと申し出たそうです。エド・マックはショックではあったそうですが、すでにジャックはイギリスではなくベルリンに住んでいて、距離があるのは感じていたと……ふむふむ。

イギリスのSSW、シールのデビュー曲です。1991年に全英2位、全米でも7位を記録しているシールでは2番目にヒットした曲です（1番は言わずもがなの "Kiss from a rose" です）。

シールとガイ・シグスワースが共同で作詞作曲、プロデューサーはトレヴァー・ホーンという豪華な仕上がり。

テーム・インパラの3枚目のアルバム、『Currents』に収録されている曲で、リアーナが自身のアルバム『Anti』でカバーしています。

内なる自分との対話の歌。恋をして失敗してきた理性的な自分と、情熱で突き進もうとする自分が喧嘩してますね。「心がふたつあるんだ」の部分はちいかわの「心がふたつあるー」から頂きました（笑）

This song is from Tame Impala's third album, Currents, and Rihanna also covered it on her album Anti.

It's a song about having a conversation with your inner self. The rational side, which has fallen in love and gotten hurt before, is arguing with the passionate side that just wants to throw caution to the wind and go for it.

For the "I've got two hearts!" bit, I borrowed that from Chiikawa's famous "I have two hearts!" line, lol.

聞いてる限り割と音楽性は明るい方？　なんですが、たまにこういう静かな曲を出してきて、それが好きなんですよねー

YouTubeでおすすめされて、サビの部分のインパクトにやられて一気に好きになった曲です。

シッコ（Sycco）はオーストラリア・ブリスベン出身のシンガー・ソング・ライターで、17歳の頃から活動しているようです。本格的なアルバムデビューは2024年で、フルームをフィーチャーした “Ripple” って曲がチャートインしたりしてるみたいです。 

I came across this song through a YouTube recommendation, and the chorus hit me so hard that I fell in love with it instantly. 

Sycco is a singer-songwriter from Brisbane, Australia, who seems to have been making music since she was 17. Her first full-length album came out in 2024, and it looks like her song "Ripple," featuring Flume, even made it onto the charts.
